A week or so ago we wrapped up our very first FaceBook Knit-Along, this one making Snookies for Father’s Day. What’s a Snookie, you ask? Well, it all started out as a joke between me and the head of my book publisher. He said that if I knit both he and one of the big-wigs at Barnes & Noble a cozy for their Nooks (an e-Reader), then he’s send me one. I don’t think he thought I would do it…but I did. I included a note that said that a sleeve for a Nook is clearly a “Snook”, unless you’re in Jersey; then it’s a “Snookie”. The name stuck.
*Note for non pop-culture junkies: Snookie is the name of one of the cast members of the reality show, Jersey Shore. I’ve never actually watched the show however, I do watch enough trashy, Hollywood gossip TV to know a little somethin’ about it. But I digress.
The project itself is pretty dang useful and (as you’ll see in the pictures below) easily adaptable to fit any number of techie gadgets. It’s quick, fun to knit and makes a great gift–all factors that make for a successful Stitch-Along. So, we asked people to grab their Country or Simply Soft and some needles and join us!
I had such a great time watching as people cast-on, asked questions and shared work-in-progress and finished Snookie pictures to the group. Here are some examples of how people truly made them their own!
