As a knit/crochetwear designer, seeing people successfully make projects using my patterns is akin to what I imagine it must be like for fashion designers to see people on the street, wearing their clothes. When I first started out on this career path, I had to rely on people e-mailing me pictures of their FOs. Thanks to social networking options like FaceBook, Ravelry, Flickr and Twitter however, now it’s easier than ever to ogle stitchers’ work online!
I’ve particularly loved watching my latest Simply Soft pattern, the Urban Jungle slouchy beanie, being whipped-up by so many people over the past few weeks. It’s been a blast seeing the different color combinations and clever modifications, as well as the sassy model shots! Here’s a round-up of some of the beanies (and their makers), just waiting to be worn this Fall. Enjoy!

Love the hat. My granddaughter claimed it before I finished it.
My friend love it. I’m sure I’ll make a couple more.
Vickie: I am a Senior Citizen that has a problem reading patterns. Show me, I can do it type person. I have made the Urban Jungle hat for myself but cannot for the like of me figure out how to finish it. Is there a simplier way to finish it or is there an easier explanation that I would undestand. Do you have a video that I could watch on my computer? I would appreciate any help you can give me as I want to make two or three more for relatives.
Do you have instructions on making the UJ for children?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
Margaret
I had the same problem and what I do is fold the tube in half with seam at center and stitch back to fron at center point on top. Bring center of two open sides to where you have just stitched and stitch to the same point.
Note You will have 4 open circles that meet in the center. Work all yarns ends into piece and trim.
I got this off a lion brand pattern on the internet because like you I didn’t know what else to do…
Thanks Vickie for the video on how to finish off the Urban Jungle. Nothing to it. Will not take mine apart but make another one just to finish it off correctlyl. Thanks much, really appreciated the help.

I’m crocheting one out of white with shimmers and it is looking good. Can’t wait to finish it. It works up fast. Hope to make some in other colors, too.
Hi, Vicki!
When can we knitters expect the knitted version of the Urban Jungle Slouchy? Can’t wait.
Love the longer slouchy worn by Kim White in the photo on this blog. How do you make the UJSB look like this? Just knit/crochet extra rows beyond what the pattern calls for & then finish off? I like that look!
Like Margaret I would love a child’s version (knitted) as I make children’s clothing for So. Africa and Afghanistan.
Barbara–I just need to seam up the knit version of it and get it written up. It’ll be up soon! I’ll also make sure it’s sized for kids, too. Oh and yes, just add more rows to make the hat extra slouchy.
A friend sent me a link to the pattern, and I’m making it now as gifts to a friend, and one more later for her daughter. It’s fun to make! I will make one for myself in another color after. ^_^ thanks so much for making this a free pattern.
Ooooh! I’m so excited that a knit version is coming. I just came to request one. Thanks!
thanks so much – finding your site is a real blessing. i am very visual also. it’s a great pattern! fredw
Hi! I’m a little late to the party here, but I have been working on the urban jungle hat and I have a question! is there any way to hide the ch3 join seam that goes up the back? I love how it looks so far, except for that ch3 seam >.< what can I do to make it less noticeable? I know it'll be on the underside of the hat when it's all done, but I'll know it's there!
