Last night HBO debuted their version of the classic film, Mildred Pierce. Not quite a remake of the original (1945, starring Joan Crawford), director Todd Haynes takes the more in-depth approach into the life of a working mother in the 30′s and the tumultuous relationship with her sociopathically-ungrateful daughter.
Academy award winning actresses; whip-smart script; fantastic costuming–this one is a must-see! In the meantime, here’s a glimpse at how knit & crochet were represented in the 1st parts, of the 5-part miniseries.

Look forward to seeing the Mildred Pearce series. Loved the book.
I’m always thrilled to see yarn fashion in films, one fave is Johnny Belinda.
I love Joan Crawford! As an actress that is, lol. Not a huge Kate Winslet liker though.
Who makes the items in the movies?
Do you?
Unfortunately, I don’t know who made the items in this film. There’s a long, wardrobe department list on imdb, but nothing specifically listed for the knit/crochet wear.
So, what was so great about this movie? I do like seeing hand made fashions in film. But I don’t subscribe to HBO.

It’s well-written, well-acted, well-directed, and filled with fashion, eye-candy.
Nothing is as good as the original movie. lol That happens to be one of my favorite movies.
I agree with Gloria. Nothing is as good as the original. The original movie dealt with a pretty heavy plot for those days. I can imagine, if they did not stick to the original script what this remake could be like. Not a fan of HBO programming. Can anyone tell me is the script is like the original or did they, as the manner of movies these days ruin it with an “R” rating.
