Speaking of Yarn Bombing
Posted in Vickie Howell, Yarn on June 22, 2011 | 1 Comment »

I yarn-bombed my own ceiling light! I love incorporating yarn into the home in unexpected ways. We needed a little warmth brought to our too-white dining area, so with the help of a ball of Sheep(ish)–in color, Pumpkin(ish)–I worked up a garter stitch strip, stretched it and hot glued it to an inexpensive drum lamp. I love the organic look of it!

Yarn bombing makes Time Magazine!

Yarn bombing hits the big time! This recent article from Time Magazine shows that yarn bombing is here to stay as an acceptable form of grafiti. Not only do grafiti artists no longer have to yarn bomb unseen in the dead of night, but they now even get the assistance from local civil servants. Just check out the photo taken in Vancouver showing local fireman attaching “yarn blossoms” to a tree. Nothing is off limits in the art of yarn bombing– from tank covers to pot holes. Gotta love it!

Father’s Day is on Sunday, so it’s time to get crafty! Here’s a quick-and-easy project I designed for PBSParents.org. All your child needs is a frame, glue, some of my Sheep(ish) yarn, and some help from mom to create a photo memory that’s perfect for pops! Get instructions here.

NEW SHEEP(ISH) PATTERN: Baby Granny Hat
Posted in Crochet, Knitting, Vickie Howell, Yarn, tagged baby, Crochet, granny squares, hat, knit, Sheep(ish), toddler, Vickie Howell on June 14, 2011 | 1 Comment »
My latest Sheep(ish) design is up as a free pattern on Caron.com! The Baby Granny Hat for the craft-dexterous–the body of the hat is made from crocheted, granny squares that are sewn together. The band and crown are then knit. This is a great, portable project to work on at the pool this summer. Whip it up now, so it’ll be ready for the Fall!
Meet Me at TNNA

Hey all! I’m off tomorrow for a quickie trip to Columbus, Ohio for TNNA (the National Needle Arts convention). If you’ll be there too, stop by and see me at the Notions Marketing booth on Sunday from 11-1pm, and 3-4pm. I’ll be there doing a chopstick cozy Make & Take (we’ll provide the Sheep(ish) and the chopsticks!), as well as a signing of my book, AwareKnits.
Hope to see you there!

Psst…not going to TNNA? No worries; I’ll post both knit & crochet versions of the cozy pattern next week!
