You’ll notice over the next month or so that I’ll be posting quite a few amigurumi patterns on the Caron blog, rather than the usual one per week. We had two very talented designers, Tracie Barrett and Mary Pueschner, design a whole bunch of amigurumis for a display piece about a year ago. It’s a shame to let these cute little things sit around collecting dust and not be shared, so I’m going to speed up the pace of making these patterns available. I’ll likey be posting them without any type of intros, so keep watch for them. And here’s one now:
BITTY BABY AMIGURUMI- designed by Tracie Barrett
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Amigurumi measures approximately 2”/5cm high
YARN: Caron International’s Simply Soft: #0001 Vanilla (A); #0004 Blueberry (B); #9727 Black (C); #9748 Rubine Red (D): small amount
CROCHET HOOK: One size US E-4 (3.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle, Fiberfill stuffing, Stitch marker
GAUGE: 20 sts and 23 rows sc = 4″/10cm. Exact gauge is not critical for this project, stitching should be tight.
STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Single crochet (sc)
sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.
sc3tog: Single crochet 3 together—[Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop] 3 times, yarn over and draw through all four loops on hook.
To Change Color
Work sc until 2 loops remain on hook, drop first color, yarn over with 2nd color, draw through last 2 loops on hook.
NOTE: Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.
With A, ch 2
Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.
Round 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.
Rounds 4-5: Sc in each sc around.
Round 6: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next sc; repeat from * around—12 sc.
Rounds 7-8: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off A, join B.
Round 9: With B, *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.

Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, weave through final rnd of sts, pull tight and secure.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Sew bonnet to head. Weave a length of B through bottom corners of bonnet, and tie in a bow at neck.
FINISHING: Weave in ends. Roll in hands to evenly distribute stuffing. Cut 1 ft of C and D and split. With C, work 2 straight sts for eyes; with D, work a straight for mouth as pictured.
