YARN: Caron International’s Simply Soft: #9748 Rubine Red (A), #9727 Black (B), and #9607 Limelight (C): 1 skein
CROCHET HOOK: One size US E-4 (3.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle, Two 6mm safety eyes, Fiberfill stuffing
Stitch marker
GAUGE: 22 sts and 23 rows sc = 4″/10 cm. Exact gauge is not critical for this project, stitching should be tight.
STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Single crochet (sc), Slip stitch (slip st)
SPECIAL TERMS: sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.
NOTE: Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.
AMIGURUMI
Tomato
With A, ch 2.
Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.
Round 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.
Round 4: Sc in each sc around.
Round 5: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—24 sc.
Round 6: Sc in each sc around.
Round 7: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—30 sc.
Rounds 8-10: Sc in each sc around.
Round 11: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * around—24 sc. Place eyes on tomato. With yarn needle and B, back st mouth on cherry as pictured. Stuff the amigurumi and continue to stuff as work progresses.
Round 12: Sc in each sc around.
Round 13: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.
Round 14: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next sc; repeat from * around—12 sc.
Round 15: [Sc2tog over next 2 sts] around—6 sc.
Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, weave through final rnd of sts, pull tight and secure.
Top
With C, leaving a long sewing length, *ch 7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next 2 ch sts, sc in next 3 ch sts; repeat from * 4 times, sl st in first ch to close into a ring. Sew top on top of tomato.
FINISHING: Weave in ends. Roll in hands to evenly distribute stuffing.
