YARN: Caron International’s Simply Soft: #0001 Vanilla (A), #9748 Rubine Red (B), #9747 Iris (C), Black (D)
CROCHET HOOK: One size US C-2 (2.75mm).
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle, Fiberfill stuffing, Stitch marker
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not critical for this project, stitching should be tight.
STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Single crochet (sc), Slip stitch (slip st)
SPECIAL TERMS: sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.
NOTES: All yarn used is split into 2 strands of 2 plies each. Use 2 plies of yarn throughout. Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.
AMIGURUMI
Head and Body
Cut 5 yds of A and split. With A, leaving a long tail, ch 4, join with a slip st to form a ring.
Round 1: 6 sc in ring and over tail, do not join, pull tail to close center ring—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around—12 sc.
Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around—18 sc.
Rounds 4-6: Sc in each st around.
Round 7: *Sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 sts; repeat from * around—12 sc. Stuff the amigurumi and continue to stuff as work progresses.
Round 8: Sc in each st around.
Round 9: *Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts; repeat from * around—9 sc.
Round 10: Sc in each st around.
Round 11: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around—12 sc.
Rounds 12-16: Sc in each st around.
Round 17: *Sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 sts; repeat from * around—8 sc. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, weave through final rnd of sts, pull tight and secure.
Arm (make 2)
With A, ch 2.
Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Rounds 2-5: Sc in each st around.
Round 6: *Sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 sts; repeat from * once—4 sts. Stuff very lightly. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew one arm to each side of body below neck as pictured.
Leg (make 2)
With A, ch 2.
Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Rounds 2-6: Sc in each st around.
Round 7: *Sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 sts; repeat from * once—4 sts. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew legs to bottom of body as pictured.
Ear (make 2)
Inner Ear
Cut 2 ft of B and split. Starting at tip of ear with B, ch 2.
Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn—2 sc. Place marker in last stitch.
Rows 2-3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn—4 sc at end of last row.
Rows 4-5: Sc in each st across.
Rows 6-7: Repeat row 2—6 sc at end of last row.
Rows 8-9: Sc in each st across. Fasten off.
Outer ear (make 2)
With A, work same as inner ear through round 9. Do not fasten off. Place inner ear on top of outer ear, with inner ear facing, working through double thickness, matching row-end sts, ch 1, sc in each row-end st across to tip, 3 sc in tip, sc in each row-end st across other side of ear, fold flat end of ear in half, working through 4 thicknesses, sc 2 halves together.
Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew one ear to each side of head as pictured.
FINISHING: With yarn needle and C, straight st 2 eyes on front of face; with D, satin st nose on center of face as pictured. Weave in ends.
