FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:  Amigurumi measures approximately 2”/5cm high

YARN:  Caron International’s Simply: #9748 Rubine Red (A), #9727 Black, #9607 Limelight (C)

CROCHET HOOK: One size US E-4 (3.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge.

 

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle,  Two 6mm safety eyes,  Fiberfill stuffing, Stitch marker

GAUGE: 22 sts and 23 rows sc = 4″/10 cm. Exact gauge is not critical for this project, stitching should be tight.

STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Single crochet (sc)

SPECIAL TERMS: sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.

NOTE: Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.

 

AMIGURUMI

Strawberry

With A, ch 2.

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.

Round 3: Sc in each sc around.

Round 4: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.

Round 5: Sc in each sc around.

Round 6: *Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—24 sc.

Rounds 7-9: Sc in each sc around.

Round 10: *Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—30 sc.

Round 11: Sc in each sc around. Place eyes on strawberry. With yarn needle and B, back st mouth on strawberry as pictured. Stuff the amigurumi and continue to stuff as work progresses.

Round 12: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sc; repeat from * around—24 sc.

Round 13: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * around—18 sc.

Round 14: Sc in each sc around.

Round 15: *Sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next sc; repeat from * around—12 sc.

Round 16: [Sc2tog over next 2 sts] around—6 sc.

Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, weave through final rnd of sts, pull tight and secure. Drive the needle through the center and back up, pulling tight to make dimples in strawberry. Knot end and fasten off.

 

Leaf (make 3)

With C, leaving a long sewing length, ch 2.

Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join, turn—3 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc across, turn—6 sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn—8 sc.

Rows 4-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc across.

Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn—6 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, turn—3 sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st, turn—4 sc.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, sl st in last st. Fasten off.

 

Beak

With B, leaving a sewing length, ch 2.

Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn—2 sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st—4 sc. and tie off. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length.

 

FINISHING: Fold beak in half lengthwise and with yarn needle and sewing length, sew end together, and sew to center front of head. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew feet to bottom of body. Glue on wiggle eyes above beak, one on each side or sew on button eyes. Weave in ends.

JOINING

Round 1: Matching sts, lay the filling piece on top of the cookie piece with wrong sides together. Working with B, and with filling piece facing you, working through back loop only of the filling piece and through both loops of the cookie piece, sc evenly around the piece, join with sl st in first sc, turn.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Rep Joining on other side of filling with second cookie piece, stuffing cookie lightly before completing round 1.

FINISHING: Weave in ends. Roll in hands to evenly distribute stuffing.

Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join—6 sc. Place marker in last stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around—12 sc.

Round 3: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around—16 sc.

Rounds 4-5: Sc in each st around.

Round 6: *Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts; repeat from * around—12 sc. Stuff lightly and continue to stuff as work progresses.

Muzzle

With A, ch 6.

Round 1: 3 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch 2 does not count as a st), sc in next 2 ch, 5 hdc in last ch, working across opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch, 2 hdc in last ch, join with a sl st in first hdc—10 hdc; 4 sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around—14 sc. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. Sew to center front of head, slightly toward bottom. With yarn needle and D, satin st 2 eyes on face; with C, straight st a pupil in center of each eye and satin st a nose on center of face as pictured.

Ear (make 2)

With A, ch 5.

Round 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook (beginning ch 1 does not count as a st), hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch, working across opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch—4 hdc; 4 sc. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew one to each side of head toward the back as pictured.

Tail

With A, ch 19.

Row 1: Working in back bar of ch sts, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across—18 sc. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew tail to center back at the bottom, between hind legs.

Bottom Lip

With A, ch 2.

Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew bottom lip to the center front of head, below the muzzle.

FINISHING: With yarn needle and B, straight st a mouth above bottom lip as pictured. Weave in ends.

You’ll notice over the next month or so that I’ll be posting quite a few amigurumi patterns on the Caron blog, rather than the usual one per week.  We had two very talented designers, Tracie Barrett and Mary Pueschner, design a whole bunch of amigurumis for a display piece about a year ago.  It’s a shame to let these cute little things sit around collecting dust and not be shared, so I’m going to speed up the pace of making these patterns available.  I’ll likey be posting them without any type of intros, so keep watch for them.  And here’s one now:

BITTY BABY AMIGURUMI- designed by Tracie Barrett

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

FINISHING:  Weave in ends. Roll in hands to evenly distribute stuffing. Cut 1 ft of C  and D and split. With C, work 2 straight sts for eyes; with D, work a straight for mouth as pictured.
